Welcome to my blog! Lately, I’ve been thinking about early retirement a lot. I don’t know why. Maybe I’ve been watching too many YouTube videos and stories about how folks became financially independent and retired early meaning quitting their 9-5 job. Maybe it’s my desire not to work a 9-5 job anymore. Maybe it’s the 3 hour daily commute. Maybe it’s my desire to spend more time with my family. Maybe it’s all the above. When I hear early retirement, I think of “you better have a lot of money saved up if you want to stop working!” That’s not necessarily the case anymore for me. I think of early retirement as having financial flexibility to make life decisions I normally wouldn’t make and not having a burden on my family.
What is financial flexibility? Is it to save a certain dollar amount? I don’t have a set dollar amount as a savings goal. My goal is to build an early retirement portfolio that would give me the flexibility and option to quit my 9-5 job and still be financially comfortable. What is in this portfolio? Well, that’s what this blog is about, to give you a glimpse of what’s in it and how I built it. My portfolio changes all the time depending how life plays out.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m very content with my current day job and I’m blessed to have the career, opportunities, experience, and mentors along the way. But is there something else? Can I still provide for my family? Will life be harder? Any change is a risk. Any drastic change is a huge risk.
One thing I always wanted to try was to blog about something and share my thoughts and opinions. I’m not much of a risk taker which is why it’s been taking me this long to create one. I’m not complaining because I probably wouldn’t be blogging about early retirement if I started earlier. I’m going to share my life decisions, my thoughts, and my experiences that is allowing me to even consider early retirement. I’ve made decisions in the past and have they payed off? Come along and join me on my journey to early retirement!
